Hey, don't knock scrapbooking!! It's an art so don't hate!! Lol, but all joking aside you can still scrapbook and come out with a clean, polished look to it. Scrapbooking isn't all about it being jumbled with embellishments, stickers and photos, it's mainly about how you want your memories to be potrayed, needless to say, one look isn't a wrong or right look. Now if you have a lot of bulky items that might not fit in a book, than a shadowbox is another option, and is a segue into scrapbooking because having a shadowbox is another way of "archiving" memorabilia. You can arrange your medals, and a few articles inside the box in a nice way and it can be hung up on a wall. But if you want a book, you can either scan your awards and newspaper clippings. Be careful with newspaper clippings because they can destroy your paper and the book overtime because the fibers and lignin break down. So I would either get the articles copied or scanned on non-toxic/acid free/lignin free paper or cardstock, or laminated, or to purchase some archival mist to neutralize the clippings, but that spray is real pricy. If you have photos, I would just get some photo corners and put one or two pictures on one page one on top of the other, and on another page your medals that you won and so on. You can also use the outside of the album to put things on as well... and make sure you use either some clear baggies or some flat storage, or a page protector to keep your stuff intact.

Well hope that helps. Good luck with that.
References :
I would put them in an album. There is nothing wrong with having "Wedding 3"!! Someday you will be happy that you have pictures of good ole what's her name! Or you can give the leftovers/duplicates (you only need 10 of what's her name) to friends and family.
References :
One thing you could consider is to "shadow box" your items. I did this for both of my children when they were born. You can purchase any sized plain shadow boxes with solid colored background felt, and glass. I took the outfits they wore home from the hospital, the hospital arm bands, the little head cover, and mittens, the newspaper clippings (archived, of course) and their first picture and used straight pins to hold the items in place.
You can match the background to your team's color. Paint the shadow box to match, or leave it all plain.
References :
For wedding pictures, I would put them in the attic in a good storage container. Here is a suggestion that my wife has done with multiple scrap books (not necessarily weddings). Scan all of the pictures, and put all of the images on a CD, then get one of the paper envelopes for CD's and stick it in your photo album. That way whenever you get an urge to look at the photos (even the ones in the album), you can insert it into your computer or DVD player and give them a look. It doesn't take much room that way, but you preserve the images so that you don't have to go stumbling around in the attic to find them.
References :
You should choose a scrapbook you like that is not too "froo-froo" and then get a package of that background paper (or buy ones you like separately.) Put all your stuff in the album and just label with a pen or nice marker what all the stuff is or whatever it is you want to say about the page. It is really only a scrapbook if you put like scraps of things and label the items with things such as: "a tissue that Grandpa used at Grandma's funeral." or anything like that....

For my mom's birthday last year, I made a scrapbook for her, but it was just photographs arranged in a nice way with pretty background paper and A FEW stickers on eack page. it looks really nice. It is not overdone and there is no texture or anything like that. It is a colorful, nice way to remember things that happened or that you participated in such as your track.

dont over or underdo yourself. make it so that it expresses who you are because that is ehat scrapbooking is all about. If you just throw pictures in a book, then years later when you look back at it, you are going to wish that it had more personality to it.

I REALLY hope this helped because I am a really slow typer and that just took a very long time to do!! LOL
References :
I save all scraps, no matter how small.

I invested in a Cricut and I make my own alphabets for titles rather than buying stickers.

With the remaining stickers I DO have, I alter existing letters to make letters I need but are out of... like cutting off the rounded edge of a P to make an F or cutting off the bottom of a B and trimming it then turning it around and back down to make an R. Econimical and challenging.

I buy adhesives in bulk on websites... my favorite is http://www.scrappindeals.com/ where they have great prices on things and often offer reduced or free shipping. They have the best prices on Hermafix adhesives that I've found.

Oriental Trading Company also carries scrapbooking supplies now... tons of them at great prices. They are usually bulk packs, so go in on a purchase with a few friends and you'll be shocked at how much you can get for a little money. (One caution... the epoxy stickers are not the best quality, but everything else I got... rub-ons, rubber embellishments, paper... was excellent quality.)

Another good online store is Create for Less (do a search for that phrase). This is one place that online stores buy products then mark them up for sale. There are usually minimums required (like must be 3 packages) but again, go in with a friend or two and you'll get some really great deals. (Right now, they are having a great sale on Bazzill cardstock!)

I use Michael's or Joanne's coupons each week, even if I just get a refill for my Xyron X (which are usually only $5.95 anyway, but I use them a lot with the letters I cut from my Cricut).

For gift giving occasions, I ask for gift certificates to my local scrapbooking store and when I shop there, I use their frequent buyer card so every $175, I get 20% off an entire purchase, so I wait until I have a full card to get a tool or a big pack of paper I've been wanting.

I buy the bulk cheaper cardstock packs (the kind that isn't as thick as say Bazzill) to use on my Cricut (and with a coupon at Michael's)... it cuts easier and I can save my Bazzill for layout backgrounds where the thickness is necessary.

Not your earth-shattering savings methods, but every little bit counts. Hope some of these help!
References :
I would scan the newspaper articles and print them on an a/f l/f paper. Use an archival grade album. You could mat the pictures and/or memorabilia to give them a nice background wich gives them focus on the page, and leave the stickers and other embellishments off, just journal what you put on the page and why so it is meaningful for others as well.

There are many sites on the internet where you can see simple pages to give you an idea how it would look. I personally prefer black pages when it needs to be clean and crisp. It looks more elegant than white, but this is my style.
